Kari Sal
Singer, songwriter, composer.
(…) it is a record of great beauty with a voice of nobility and simplicity surprising in today’s world. Great album, and Kari Sal is a character we should be paying attention to today!” – Marcin Kydryński
Her enthusiastically received album Betesda (Hevhetia) was critically acclaimed as one of the most interesting releases of 2017 (Marcin Kydryński of Polish Radio 3, Adam Baruch, Jazzis) and came second in the list of best vocal jazz albums (Adam Dobrzyński of Polish Radio 3). The thirty-year-old artist has collaborated with many outstanding Polish and foreign jazz artists, as well as receiving a commission for a new work from Łódź Philharmonic.
Kari has given performances in Poland and abroad (among others, at Berlin’s RadialSystem V and the seat of Stuttgarter Kammerorchester), sharing the stage with such musicians as Verneri Pohjola, Adam Sztaba, Adam Bałdych, Jacob Karlzon, Adam Klocek, as well as the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra (NOSPR).
Drawing inspiration from the folk music of the Lemko and Boyko ethnic groups, which she knows from her childhood, as well as from contemporary electronic repertoire, Kari Sál also includes elements of jazz, world, and classical music in her works. The eclectic character of her style is well reflected on her debut album Betesda (pieces composed in an abandoned church in the small Icelandic village of Kirkjubæjarklaustur) and on Butterfly, released in the autumn of 2023.
The artist lives and works in Warsaw.
